Manhole Applications

Return to Wastewater Applications

Although the majority of rehabilitation funding has been directed to the main lines, deteriorated sewer manholes contribute approximately 30-50% of infiltration of groundwater into the system. This infiltration results in overloaded treatment plants, expensive treatment cost, ineffective wastewater treatment and pollution to our environment. Manholes commonly experience high levels of corrosive sewer gases that cause deterioration from sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid will attack the entire precast concrete structure or the mortar joints in brick structures, causing severe deterioration to the point of structural fatigue or failure.

Poly-Triplex Liner System was initially designed to solve the problems of infiltration and deterioration in manholes. The problem had been that most other rehabilitation methods result in costly short-term fixes or simply mask the problem. Most spray applied coatings require all infiltration be stopped prior to application. The resulting product contains microscopic pinholes that allow gases to penetrate the coating surface and further attack the host structure.

Many years of actual real-world experience has shown the Poly-Triplex system to successfully stop the chemical corrosion and infiltration in a permanent and cost effective manner. The liners non-porous properties allow for liner installation during periods of active infiltration and the liners physical properties allow for cured-in-place rehabilitation where structural fatigue exists. The following are examples of the Poly-Triplex System at work.

Manhole Rehabilitation, Fulton County Utilities, Atlanta, GA
Wastewater Applications Problem: A 27' deep manhole was in critical condition near collapse, with serious infiltration present.
Solution: The Poly-Triplex Liner System completely and permanently restored manhole structure in one day. After seeing the difference that Poly-Triplex makes, Fulton County has used the Poly-Triplex Liner System in more than **** structures.

Manhole Rehabilitation - Clark County, NV
Wastewater applications Problem: Structures with severe deterioration in locations with extremely high traffic congestion.
Solution: Poly-Triplex installations were coordinated to occur at varying times of the day or night to minimize traffic disruption. Since February 2005 Poly-Triplex Liners have been installed in well more than 600 structures.

Sewer Rehabilitation - Town of LaGrange, North Carolina:
Wastewater applications Problem: Severe deterioration of the town’s sewer system called for a comprehensive rehabilitation project that included 224 manholes, six pump stations, slip-lining of sewer pipes, service lateral replacements, sewer line replacement and upgrades to lift stations.
Solution: The Poly-Triplex Liner System was used to completely resolve the problems in the manholes and pump stations by providing an impermeable barrier against water infiltration and sewer gas penetration to stop future deterioration.

Rectangular Vault Manhole Rehabilitation – National Park Service, Yellowstone, WY
Wastewater applications Problem: Deterioration and Infiltration
Solution: Poly-Triplex Liner System was installed in panels inside rectangular manhole structure. Liner was pressurized and cured-in-place with a removable inflation bladder. The liner stopped all infiltration and deterioration.
